Pamela Verma is the winner of the $25,000 Arnold Edinborough Award for 2009.
She received her Bachelor of Science (Honours), majoring in Cell and Developmental Biology, from the University of British Columbia. From the start of her post-secondary career, Pamela’s work, committee and volunteer experiences express a sincere desire to make a difference Her story is a testament to the possibilities that are created with an enduring spirit and clarity of purpose.
Pamela is now pursuing a Doctor of Medicine at UBC, with a speciality in internal medicine. Her desire to be a competent and caring physician comes from a combined interest in science and social equity. With a strong belief that access to quality medical care is a basic human right, Pamela plans to seek out those who are neglected. In September, Pamela also launched a student-run medical journal entitled, “UBC Medical Journal.”
This award honours the late Arnold Edinborough, who served as Chairman and Director for the International Scholarship Foundation from 1974 to 2000, and then as Chairman Emeritus until his passing in 2006.
